Some people work in denim. Others live it.

For Wouter Munnichs, it’s always been about more than fabric. It’s about stories, connections, and a deep-rooted curiosity for everything indigo.
As the founder of online denim magazine Long John, Wouter has spent the past 15 years building one of the most respected voices in the global denim scene; a platform that moves between heritage and innovation, spotlighting the people, products and processes shaping the industry today.
At the same time, he’s been a close part of the Denim Days team. Bringing his experience, industry knowledge, and international network into the mix, Wouter plays a key role in connecting the right brands, designers, artists and makers to the event, shaping a lineup that feels both relevant and unexpected.
What started in 2011 as a passion project has grown into something far beyond a blog. Today, Long John is a daily source of inspiration for both denim enthusiasts and industry insiders, while Wouter himself continues to work closely with brands, retailers, and mills around the world as a consultant and creative partner.
A milestone worth marking and a moment to reflect.

Wouter Munnichs on 15 years of Long John
“As a kid, I was already fascinated by denim, but things really took off when I started working at the Diesel Store in the early 1990s. That’s where it all began for me.
Years later, in 2011, after gaining experience with various denim, fashion, and footwear brands, I decided to launch an online platform to share my passion and knowledge. At that time, there weren’t dedicated denim platforms, most were forums, and daily blogging about denim wasn’t common at all. This was also before social media really took off, so it felt like a completely new adventure. One that eventually grew into something I could have never imagined.
Not long after launching Long John, I was invited by a major fashion trade show in Amsterdam, Modefabriek, to create a denim exhibition. That became one of the first larger offline projects that came from the platform. A great example of how things started to evolve beyond just online content.
Today, I spend about half of my time on keeping Long John up and running, and half of my time creating exclusive content and working as a freelance consultant for denim brands, retailers, and mills around the world. This ranges from creating unique content to supporting start-ups, acting as a sparring partner for brands, and giving inspirational talks and lectures. Next to this, I’m also proud member of the Denim Days team in Amsterdam.
Over the past 15 years, countless special projects have come my way, and there’s much more to come, especially this year as I celebrate this milestone.”
