Who are you and what is your role within the store?
My name is Joran Menger and I’m Mood Indigo’s manager. I’m responsible for the selection of merchandise, pricing and team.
Can you describe what kind of store you have, or working in?
We are specialised in curated vintage denim and Americana. We have a big selection of work wear and US brands like Schott, Pendleton and Woolrich. For women, we have a beautiful collection of original western and bohemian cotton dresses and traditional Afghan long coats. In summer, we have more Hawaii, bowling and western shirts in the collection.
Which brands are the core of the store collection?
Levi’s, Lee, Wrangler, Schott, Ralph Lauren & Harley Davidson are the main brand we sell, but you can also find brands like Osh-Kosh, Pendleton and Woolrich at our shop. Being a vintage store, we love authentic US made pieces.
Is there one brand in particular that is selling the best at the moment, which one is it, and why do you think it’s so successful?
Levi’s 100%. Denimhead or not, everyone wants to own a pair of Levi’s. Especially their 501’s. A timeless model and fit.
How do you select/spot new brands to add to the store?
We don’t necessarily look at the brand. There mainly needs to be a fit in style and quality. Brands can represent quality, but age of clothing does as well! Good examples are our original 1940/1950s letterman college and university cardigan.
What is your favorite pair of jeans?
Personally I love the collection of Levi’s Vintage Clothing jeans we offer in the shop the most. Especially the 1890 and 1915 fits!
How important are social channels to the store these days?
During Covid times we noticed how important it can be. Before this pandemic we were doing fine without social channels. Now it’s hard to imagine a life without it.
What kind of music are you playing mostly in the store?
We tend to play music that, in our eyes, matches the shop the most: folk, indie, country, blues and some rock ’n roll.
Are selling other goods as well next to clothing, if so, what kind of products?
We have a large collection of hand made vintage western boots from American craftsman. All hand picked and curated by the Local Boot Dealer. Truly unique in the Netherlands and maybe even Europe. Next to authentic leather belts, saddle bags and other US accessories, we offer indigenous Aztec blankets and Magazines like Avant.
What can we expect in the future of the store?
We are always looking for new categories and styles to add to the shop. If we would have more space, we would like to show our large Army and Workwear collection. Also in Denim, we have much more variety we can display today. We might move to a new location to highlight the beautiful pieces.
