The Living Tradition of Indigo
Timeless craft, modern spirit. From the hutongs of China to the studios of London, Bluehanded revives the ancient art of indigo dyeing. Creating slow-made textiles that celebrate heritage, craftsmanship, and the enduring beauty of blue.
Where It All Began

Founded by John Abbate, Bluehanded was born from a deep respect for tradition and a fascination with Chinese indigo craftsmanship. The story started with a single cloth, discovered in the rubble of an old Chinese house , a fragment of culture that sparked a mission to preserve and reimagine ancient techniques for today.

Crafted by Hand, Dyed by Tradition
Bluehanded’s fabrics are made using Lan Yin Hua Bu, or “blue-printed flower cloth” an indigo resist-dyeing method dating back over 800 years. Every step is done by hand: from cutting paper stencils and applying soybean-lime paste to dyeing the cloth in natural indigo vats aged for decades. Each piece bears the mark of time, patience, and mastery, proof that true craftsmanship never goes out of style.
Exclusively at the coming Denim Days market

This Edition - October 17th & 18th 2025 - Bluehanded unveils a limited collection of accessories and apparel made in London, created especially for Denim Days Festival. The Beauty of Blue
Bluehanded’s work connects the past with the present, proving that slow, intentional making still matters. Each piece carries a story, rich in texture, meaning, and the unmistakable depth of natural indigo.
